Photo Filters

For this blog tutorial we will be explaining how filters work for the update of the app. This tutorial is for iOS only.

Since Version 4.1 we have added photo filters, first of all let’s explain how you can unlock extra filters. So go to the upgrades screen, you will see that now you will be able to unlock extra filters by either having the full version, or purchasing one of the image packs. So you can be on the lite version, but can unlock extra filters simply by purchasing image packs.

You can use photo filters in many different ways, you can use them on your profile picture, cover image and also pictures for your countdowns. So we are going to create a mock event just so you can see what happens. So fill in event details and then hit Themes and Styling.

Tap on the image in the bottom left hand corner, choose the image you want to use, then you will see a bunch of filters to choose from, once you get the extra filters you will have a huge selection to choose from. Choose the filter you like and hit save. Then you are all done.

You can go back and change the filters as many times as you like as well.

Thank you for reading this tutorial, we will be releasing more tutorials very soon. If you have any questions about the app then message us on Facebook. Check out the original video here.

Add Facebook Events to your Android Calendar

On this post, we wanted to share with you how to add Facebook events on to your Android device. We do have the steps on our app but wanted to share you with you some visual steps on how to add them.

Facebook no longer allows third-party apps to directly sync Facebook birthdays. You can still access Facebook birthdays and events by configuring your Google calendar to import Facebook events.

You will need to access your Facebook account on a desktop browser, unlike on an iPhone you cannot just Request Desktop Site. In the top right-hand corner find the question mark symbol which is next to the arrow symbol. Type into the search section “export events”, you will see a list of options as an answer. You need to click on “How do I export events or friends’ birthdays? then follow these instructions.

When on the Events page, right-click the Upcoming Events link.

In another tab on your laptop open Google Calendar. In the bottom left-hand corner, you will see “Other calendars”, click on the bottom arrow to then find “Add by URL”. Paste the “Upcoming Events” or “Birthdays” link. Then click Add Calendar and you will see a message on the screen saying Calendar was imported successfully.

We hope this helped you add your Facebook Events to your Android device and the app, if you have any questions about the app then message us on Facebook.

Add Facebook Events to your iPhone Calendar

Since Apple released iOS 11 a couple of our users on Countdownplus have been messaging us on Facebook saying that they cannot see any calendar options in the Facebook section of their iPhone settings. This is because Apple removed direct Facebook and Twitter integration on iOS 11.We wanted to share with you how to add Facebook events back to your iPhone on iOS 11. The only way to add Facebook Events back to your calendar and for the app is to subscribe to the calendar.

On your iPhone click on this link, then you will most likely see the mobile version of the site. You need to request the desktop site, for Google Chrome you can find this option under the three dots, Request Desktop Site. For Safari, you can find this option under the share button, scroll across to find Request Desktop Site.

Then in the lower right-hand corner, you will need zoom in to find this option. Tap on Upcoming Events and Birthdays. You will see a pop up telling you if you already have it or not. Just follow the on-screen instructions.

Alternatively, you can copy the Upcoming Events and Birthdays link, and go to your Settings-Accounts & Passwords-Add Account-Other-Add Subscribed Calendar. Then paste the link to the calendar in the Server section. Tap next and then tap Save.

We hope this helped you add your Facebook Events back to your iPhone calendar and the app, if you have any questions about the app then message us on Facebook.

Profile Header

This blog tutorial will explain the new profile header adjustments. This is for IOS only.

In Version 4.1 you can now get rid of the profile header screen. It was a hugely requested feature since Version 4.0 came out. It is super simple to get rid of and we wanted to show you some extra features we have added to the profile header. So if you want to get rid of the header, simply tap on the gear icon. Then see under Display option it says Birthday Countdown Header, get rid of that and it will disappear. You will now notice that the next birthday and your age does not take up so much space.

If you want to see how old you are to the exact time, then swipe to the left. If you want to see your next birthday swipe to the right.

If you want to edit the cover image you can, simply tap on your profile image, and you will see a blue bar with a pencil icon. Tap on that and choose to either edit the profile image, edit cover image or refresh image. Edit the cover image, and add a new image, you can also add an overlay so you can actually see all the text.

Themes and Styling

This blog tutorial will show you the new editing tools when adding images to an event. This is for Ios only.

When adding events or editing events, you can add images, but on Version 3.0, editing was rather laborious. Now we have neatened up the editing process for your countdowns. So let’s start with an already created event, but where you find all the editing options for the event is exactly the same even when you create a new event. So tap on Settings, then scroll down to Appearance and Style then tap on Themes and Style.

Now you will see all the editing options, if you want to change the style of the countdown then you change that with the top drop-down menu. Change the style of font or colour at the bottom of the screen. Then most importantly you will want to add an image to the countdown so tap on the camera icon.

Then once you are done editing the event, tap on the arrow to go back and then tap Done when you are all finished.

Brand New Update for Android

So as you might have all heard from us over the past couple of months that we have been very busy updating the app for Android. We realise it has taken us longer than expected but we are happy to announce it has finally launched for you all to check out. So we wanted to do a quick overview of what to expect on this version of the Android update.

This was a huge request for many users via FB messages and reviews, and finally, you will be able to transfer your data from Android to iPhone, iPhone to Android and Android to Android. This was always going to be the first feature we wanted to add to the new update and was the main reason why the update was so delayed since we hit some minor issues with our server space.

Image Packs

You can now choose from a vast collection of image packs for this update and you can also unlock single images from packs by simply watching a video ad via the app. We will be aiming to update image packs a lot more frequently from now on as well.

Facebook Events

This was also a big request that we actually fix the Facebook button, and since the last couple of years Facebook has made things a little more difficult so you will need to enable events from your laptop first then you will see Facebook Events show in the app. We will create a video tutorial to better explain the process and we have added a pop up in the app to better explain the process.

Sharing Events

For this update, you can now share too much more platforms than before. Share any screen and countdown to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many other platforms.

In the next few weeks expect to see a whole heap of video tutorials on all channels on social. So follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to find all the videos.

Sharing Options

This video tutorial turned into a blog post will help you understand all the share capabilities for the iPhone version of the app. This is for Ios only. This came in joint second to the previous video in our Twitter poll.

You can now share pretty much any screen from the app, but what has improved is the places you can share your countdowns to. As you may know in Version 3.0 Facebook sharing was broken and we fixed it for Version 4.0.

Firstly when you want to share a countdown, tap on the share button, square with an arrow. Then if you have your sound turned on you will hear a camera clicker sound. Then a pop up will appear at the top of the screen reminding you to use the hashtags we provide. They are already saved to your clipboard so you just have to paste them. You can now share to a larger range of networks. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SMS, Email, Photos and more. If you want to share it to other networks, then tap on more and you will get the options to do so.

So say you want to share to Facebook, there is no preset text so add what you want. Sharing with Instagram will ask you to copy to Instagram, and it will open up Instagram for you. Sharing to Twitter, will give you preset text, delete what you wish and keep whatever you think is appropriate. When sharing via SMS and Email we do have a longer preset text, of course again delete if you wish. Tapping Photos, will save the screenshot to your photos album. You will see a pop up appear telling you it saved.

Sharing from any screen of the app is pretty simple, tap on Menu three lines then look for the share app button.

Thank you for reading this tutorial, we will be releasing more tutorials very soon. If you have any questions about the app then message us on Facebook. Check out the original video here.

Holiday Tab

We have another video tutorial turned into a blog post for you. For this blog tutorial, we will show you the Holiday tab features. This is for iOS only. It came 2nd in our Twitter poll, so thanks for voting.

Holidays Tab is new to Version 4.0, the feature works best if you purchase the app from the App Store or via the lite version. You can add events from all across the world.

Adding events from the list is simple, choose the country you want to add the event from. Just tap on the Country up top and change it. Then find the event you want, tap on the plus button and it will add it to your timeline. So easy to see the Holiday tab events on your timeline, because we added an emoji flag. Of course, it presets the style to calendar type so change the style if you wish.

So there is of course more to the holiday tab, if you want to find out more info to see if the holiday is regional you can. Also if you say add an event from Japan, it will translate the holiday name as well. You can share the page of course if you wish, by tapping on the share button. Each event also has a holiday code. If you want to add the code you can do, if you want to find out more on event codes then watch this video.

Thank you for reading this tutorial, we will be releasing more tutorials very soon. If you have any questions about the app then message us on Facebook. Check out the original video here.

How to use C+ to revise for exams

Last week we talked about how you could use Countdownplus for work but this week it is all about how to use the app for exams. Exam season is already in full swing here in the UK and some of you may or may not still be revising in between exams. We have some tips below to help you revise for your exams.

Share Events

Much like with using the app for work, a lot of the time some of your friends will be revising for the same exam. So you could set up a countdown to say a particular subject like History, then you can personalise it, even if it is a countdown to an exam. Then share the code with your friends, so all of you are aware of when the exam is and how long you have left to revise for the exam. If you need an in-depth tutorial then check out the tutorial in blog form or video form.

Add Images

You might not want to add images to your exam countdowns and only add pictures to your exciting events. Think of it as an easy way to keep organised and make exams seem less boring. We recommend using some images from our image packs, which is an in-app purchase but adds colour to your countdowns. We think the pattern packs might suit your needs best. It will make your countdown timeline come to life.

App Icon Countdown

We have a feature called App Icon Countdown and it displays a number of days to your next countdown event. So this will really help out if your next event is an exam and you need to know quickly how many more days left till an event. If you want to turn it on then Open the App-More-App Icon Countdown and make sure it is turned on (green switch).

We hope these few tips helped you feel you could be more organised for any exams you have this year or for the future. Don’t forget to tag your countdowns with #countdown and #countdownplus
