March Update 2018

Since writing the last update post we have been making great progress with frequent updates to the stores. Keep reading to find out more about what we have planned next.

Just a few days ago we released a brand-new update for iOS. List of features updated is shown below.

We have since that update been made aware of some issues with crashes. We found the root of this issue, so you should be able to see an update available in the store. If you do experience issues, please message us on Facebook and we will try our best to fix the issue. If you have any requests for the app as well then do message us on Facebook as well. We are also in the process of adding a new feature to the iOS app very soon which will help let more people join in with your events. It is currently being put on hold until the app is making better progress.

As a result of a recent disapproval from Apple, Countdown+ will no longer have the App Icon Countdown feature. Here’s the correspondence we received from Apple:

“Your app uses badge notifications for unintended purposes. Badge notifications should only show the number of unread notifications an app has.”

It’s quite unfortunate since we’ve had this feature since version 1.0 which was released several years ago. We will continue to find innovative ways to ensure you don’t forget your events ever. Stay tuned for more features!

In regard to Android, we are trying to get a few more updates ready for iOS and want to be updating the app as much as possible. We hope to have an Android update out in the next few months. The app needs to catch up with iOS so we will try to add those features in a few separate updates.

If you want to stay up to date about updates to the app then follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

User Inspired 2018 Instagram Holidays

We really enjoy writing these user inspired posts and for this post, you will see two Instagram posts from our users. Read on to find out who is in this week’s post.

If you are not familiar with our user inspired posts then here is a little catch up on what happens in these posts. We pick 2 amazing countdowns from Twitter or Instagram and give you a little more info on the countdown itself. If it is a countdown to say Ed Sheeran, we give you some news on him and if there are still some tickets left or if it’s a holiday some great tips on where to go and what to see and when to go.

First up is @amylk_27 who is off to Rome in April this year. The best time to visit Rome is from October to April when it is less crowded and prices for hotels are much cheaper. Rome is a popular tourist destination with some stunning attractions such as The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. All really easy to get to if you hop on the Metro in Italy. The Colosseum although a huge tourist spot, holds a lot of history and stunning architecture. It’s advised to spend a good hour exploring inside of the remains. The Trevi Fountain is a great place to throw in a coin for luck, but also a great place for a pit stop whilst enjoying some ice cream. The Piazza Navona is best to be visited late at night, where the square really comes to life. Whilst in Italy why not indulge in some tasty pasta and pizza. Only the best will be made in Rome. These are just a few things you can do whilst in Rome, Italy.

Next up is @staceyk_b who is off to New York in March. New York is busy all year round but the quietest time to visit is during January till Early March, although rather cold you can get the pick of the best hotels and better pick of the Broadway shows. Here are some must do’s for New York. Central Park really comes alive during the spring months so it could be ideal for a spring walk, why not head towards the Zoo, or hop on a carriage ride through the park. New York is most famous for its pizza, one of the first pizza places to ever open in New York was Lombardi’s Pizza, this place is amazing if you want authentic pizza. If you are looking to walk off that pizza then why not take a walk along The High Line, a beautiful urban bridge in the heart of the city, with stunning views it is a nice alternative to the usual tourist sites in NY. Why not visit some popular landmarks such as the Empire State building and the Rockefeller Center, both stunning views of the city and skyline? It’s a perfect place to take some pictures. A nice way to end a day is by seeing a Broadway show. Either a comedy or musical performance. These are just a few things you can do whilst in New York.

User Inspired Theatre and Music events 2018

It’s been a month or so since our last user inspired post here on our blog. In today’s user inspired post we have one countdown from Twitter and one from Instagram.

First up is Twitter user @HHLifestyleTrav who is seeing Hamilton in London in March 2018. This show has had amazing success in America, it’s a must watch show. Whilst the show was on Broadway it was near impossible to get tickets. Recently the show has found a new home here in the UK at Victoria Palace Theatre. If you were lucky enough to grab tickets just like Hannah, then you are in for a treat. Let us fill you in on what you might expect from the show. The Hamilton musical is based on the historical events of American founding father Alexandar Hamilton. It first became a stage show in the US back in 2015. It has won numerous awards along the way winning 11 Tony awards and was nominated for 16. Also, won a Grammy award for Best Musical Theatre award. Written and produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, he apparently came across the biography of Alexandar Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow on a flight back from a vacation trip. He researched and found out that no one had done a full stage performance of his story. The soundtrack for the show has also won Best Musical Theater Album at the Grammys. You can still get tickets for the show stays here until December 15th this year.

Next up is Instagram user @frankiiejohnson who is off to see Demi Lovato in Manchester in June 2018. Demi Lovato last week just announced that she is coming to the UK for the first time as part of her European tour of Tell Me You Love Me. She is touring across Europe from late May until late June. Tell Me You Love Me is the name of her latest album released last year in July. You might have already heard one of her tracks from that album which is Sorry Not Sorry, a very different vibe to her older material. If you are a big Demi Lovato fan then you might have already checked out her documentary which was released on YouTube last year in October. It was a very revealing look into her personal life over her whole career. It showed her struggle with depression and suicide and how is overcoming that. It was such an eye-opener to see her take on her life. She took some much-needed rest from showbiz in 2017 but we love that she came back with a killer album and a tour for 2018. We couldn’t be more excited for new music from her, and you can still get tickets to her European Tour.

User Inspired from Twitter and Instagram 🎤😊

Happy New Year to you all, hope you had a lovely time over the festive period. We are back with a brand-new post on our blog. We wanted to kick off 2018 by showing you two amazing events from our users. You have been busy making plans already for 2018.

First up is Twitter user @yourbitterluv who is off to Summer in the City in August 2018. Here timeline was filled with some amazing events and we haven’t spoken too much about Summer in the City before on our blog. Summer in the City is an annual YouTube convention that gives viewers the chance to meet their favourite YouTuber and meet up with online friends. You can explore the expo hall to find lots of stands from brands and also stands to sell YouTuber merchandise. The main stage is an excellent place to see some musicians perform live and see live comedy and see the big YouTube awards show. Why not also take some time and listen to some talks from YouTubers on a wide range of topics? SITC started in 2009 in the Royal Park of London as a small gathering but over the years has expanded in attendees and more recently started exhibiting in ExCeL London. There are currently tickets already available on their website. You can buy individual tickets or weekend passes (Saturday and Sunday) SITC 2017 was a huge year as there was a bigger list of YouTubers attending the convention. No actual announcements so far on which YouTubers will be attending Summer in the City in 2018. Do keep an eye out for announcements on their Twitter.

Next up is Instagram user @bryanfostermusic who is off to see Nashville in Concert later this year. Nashville is a country music inspired television show on CMT (Country Music Television) The show has been running for 6 years on and off, once belonging to ABC then being bought out by CMT. The show follows a group of fictitious country music superstars and their journey to stardom. The show has a very exciting storyline and one that would be far too long to explain in a blog post. We highly suggest binge-watching a few series if you haven’t come across the show before.  However, if you are huge fans of the show then you might not be aware that some of the cast of Nashville actually go on tour to perform songs from the hit show. They started touring way back in 2014 and also travelled to the UK. The cast is back on the road again in 2018 for some further UK shows.  The show is, however, coming to a close this year on CMT and so this is the final tour for Nashville. There are still some tickets available in the UK so grab them whilst tickets last.

Photo Filters

For this blog tutorial we will be explaining how filters work for the update of the app. This tutorial is for iOS only.

Since Version 4.1 we have added photo filters, first of all let’s explain how you can unlock extra filters. So go to the upgrades screen, you will see that now you will be able to unlock extra filters by either having the full version, or purchasing one of the image packs. So you can be on the lite version, but can unlock extra filters simply by purchasing image packs.

You can use photo filters in many different ways, you can use them on your profile picture, cover image and also pictures for your countdowns. So we are going to create a mock event just so you can see what happens. So fill in event details and then hit Themes and Styling.

Tap on the image in the bottom left hand corner, choose the image you want to use, then you will see a bunch of filters to choose from, once you get the extra filters you will have a huge selection to choose from. Choose the filter you like and hit save. Then you are all done.

You can go back and change the filters as many times as you like as well.

Profile Header

This blog tutorial will explain the new profile header adjustments. This is for IOS only.

In Version 4.1 you can now get rid of the profile header screen. It was a hugely requested feature since Version 4.0 came out. It is super simple to get rid of and we wanted to show you some extra features we have added to the profile header. So if you want to get rid of the header, simply tap on the gear icon. Then see under Display option it says Birthday Countdown Header, get rid of that and it will disappear. You will now notice that the next birthday and your age does not take up so much space.

If you want to see how old you are to the exact time, then swipe to the left. If you want to see your next birthday swipe to the right.

If you want to edit the cover image you can, simply tap on your profile image, and you will see a blue bar with a pencil icon. Tap on that and choose to either edit the profile image, edit cover image or refresh image. Edit the cover image, and add a new image, you can also add an overlay so you can actually see all the text.

Best Tips for Disneyland Paris ✨🏰✨

It’s been some time since we did any Disneyland related blog posts, so we wanted to share some of the best tips for Disneyland Paris. We will split this into sections to read the parts you feel will help you out the most.

Weather

So unlike in Florida where it is always sunny and barely a chance of rain or snow. You need to expect the worst to happen in terms of weather. So if you visit in October then bring jumpers and a light raincoat, this works especially if you need to keep warm and dry during the night shows. You might think the park is small but it really doesn’t so do take some great weatherproof shows. It will help as you don’t want to walk around the park and end up having blisters and feeling tired so fast.

Book a Disney Hotel

This is more of a tip if you have not booked yet, but good to keep in mind for the next trip to Disneyland as well. It is always best to stay in a Disneyland hotel as you can get a free shuttle service to the parks from Disneyland hotels. It also only takes around 10 minutes to walk to the park. Tons of extras get thrown in as well if you choose a Disneyland hotel, such as park tickets come included in the price of your hotel stay, on-site shop and restaurant. If you choose to book a non-Disneyland hotel it can take up to an hour to get back which means less time in the park.

Arrive Early

Much like the parks in the US, if you do end up staying in a park in the US. You will be given early access to the parks, from 8am. This gives you a head start of 2 hours to get on rides, so you don’t have to wait behind everyone. This works well for the type of rides where you cannot get fast pass tickets for.

Food

Disneyland has some great food options as well if you do end up staying in the hotels then plan when you want to eat. If you think about eating when everyone else does you will get stuck in a queue for the table. It is advised online to eat before everyone does. Booking a table could be ideal as well since you won’t have to queue. So, plan a day ahead this will help if you are going in a large group. You can if you don’t want to have a sit-down lunch grab food from food stands around the park.

We hope these few tips helped you figure out what is best for your next Disneyland Paris trip. Tag all your Disneyland countdowns with #countdown and #countdownplus so we can see them.
